There’s no big company behind us, no franchise model, no call centre and no team of pushy sales people. Just a small local business, based at home in Costessey, doing its best to help other local businesses thrive.
Every edition – whether it’s Costessey Handy, Hellesdon Handy, or our newest, Wensum Handy – is put together with care, attention, and a good cup of tea (or two). We work with a local printer, just a stones throw from Costessey, who understands our community and takes pride in producing a high-quality magazine that lands through your letterbox every two months.
We know the area and how it has developed over the years. We also know how important it is for local businesses to be seen and supported – especially when times are tough. That’s why when we all went into lockdown in 2000, while other local magazines (understandably) paused or stopped printing, we pushed through and supported our local businesses. We delivered consistency in a time of uncertainty, and strengthened the link between our readers and their local world.
So when you advertise with Handy Magazines, or pick up a copy to see what’s going on nearby, you’re supporting something truly local. And that means a lot.
“I grew up in Bowthorpe and regularly spent time around Costessey, Bawburgh and Earlham. Now living in Costessey, I wanted to create something useful for the local community – something that helps small businesses get seen, keeps residents in the know, and feels genuinely local.
“I’ve put a lot of thought into making the magazine feel more premium, and I think that’s why a lot of people hold on to their copy for longer. You can really tell when a delivery goes out, as I get inundated with lovely comments about the latest issue!
“I’m often asked if I’m part of a franchise or bigger company. It’s just me, working locally, with help from a brilliant local printer and talented local contributors. I’m proud of what Handy Magazines has become and even prouder to say it’s made right here in Norwich.”
