Unicorn alpacas and miniature donkeys return to Castle Quarter
Published: 20 August 2025

Enjoy unique animal encounters at Castle Quarter when the popular unicorn alpacas and miniature donkeys return for two free, family-friendly events.
Animal lovers will have the chance to meet an enchanting mix of four-legged friends, including adorable alpacas, miniature horses, gentle tortoises, and many more, on Friday 29th August, from 12pm to 4pm.
For a small donation, alpaca fans will also be able to take one of these beautiful creatures for a stroll around Castle Gardens, offering a special opportunity to find out more about their lives, care and lovable personalities.

There is no need to pre-book and every penny raised from the alpaca walks will go towards their care at Church Farm, near Beccles, where all the animals are based. The site is also home to a sanctuary specialising in rescuing and rehoming rare animal breeds, exotic mammals and local wildlife.
“These heart-warming sessions are the perfect feel-good events for all ages”
Then, on Saturday 13th September from 10am to 1.30pm trot along to the centre’s Castle Meadow entrance where the team from Miniature Donkeys for Wellbeing will be bringing along their long-eared friends for a special day of meet and greets.
Known for their calm natures and affection, these delightful donkeys are therapy-trained and regularly visit care homes, schools and community groups across East Anglia.
Visitors can meet them up close, give them gentle strokes, and learn about the amazing work they do to spread joy in our communities.

Gemma Hyde, marketing and administration manager at Castle Quarter, said: “Whether you’re popping by on your lunch break or bringing along the little ones for a magical animal moment, these heart-warming sessions are the perfect feel-good events for all ages, and they’re free to attend.
“We’re always aiming to put on unique, free experiences, giving friends and families a lovely reason to spend some quality time together, but it’s even more special when we can combine that with raising awareness and funds for organisations doing amazing work in our communities.
“We hope everyone leaves with a smile and a newfound love for these wonderful animals.”
